Battle Log of Operation 513 for Toowong on Tuesday August 16th, 2022 from 1330 – 1500

Praise be to God we had Alfred, Ka Fai Yau from Sydney joining us making a team of four. Alfred is the Asia Mobilizer of the African Inland Mission. He also runs his own Network Mission and want to connect with Brisbane Co-workers to have a glimpse of what we are doing in the cross-cultural evangelism aspects. Therefore, I invited him to come along to have a go. There were overwhelmingly large people flow with a long queue for the bus that presented a mixed situations that was good to have more outreach targets but meantime we would face a larger reject rate as one rejection will cause repercussion effect leading all people around also inclined to follow suit to reject our approach.

We just kept trusting the Lord to dig deep hanging in there and at the end, we still got some very good quality chat towards the end. Recap is the Battle log of Hung:

1) I approached an Aborigine look guys who claimed he is all good showing initial reluctant to listen, but the Spirit gave me additional urge and softened his heart to still listen while waiting in the queue. People around were actually listening, so despite the hard soil all around, gospel still be heard.

2) The Spirit guided me to approach an Indonesia girl who surprisingly showed genuine willingness to listen and thanks for my sharing afterward. Pray that the message coupling with the tract will serve God's Will and Plan for her.

3) After the bus stop was emptied with queue of people boarding the bus, I was led to approach yet another Indonesian lady who was equally humble to welcome my gospel sharing showing positive reaction to the message.

4) I tried personally several Chinese students but all got rejection , but then the Spirit led me to approach yet another one who had just rejected Johnny. But I was moved to give it a go and miraculously he was softened to have a good cat with me. He actually has been targeted by God with many prior approaches by his Christian friends. He asked me back what made us keep doing this task of nuisance and why we think the gospel message are so important. He ended up telling me perhaps it is time he should try to have a serious reading of the Bible that someone had given to him before. This divine encounter and turning point really showed me time and again , the Spirit is at work and I am really the vessel used by God through the Spirit to break open the stone heart of a people being raised up from an atheist country.

5) Then I tried to approach an Indian students who also show me a cold face. He listened reluctantly for a while than rudely walked away.

6) Then I was led to approach a Korean student who was feeling so happy for getting a good deal buying a big pack of croissant at $9. I teased at him for that good deal but suggested to him there are something else that are more important than a reduced-price goods item. He was moved but the bus arrived so he could only take a tract from me.

7) Then I caught up with an Aussie girl who was waiting for a call from her friends, I said I will stop when her friend call. Then I earned 1 minute to share the nutshell of the Gospel and left her a tract.

8 ) Thomas from Whitsunday looks like a young generation Atheist, and showed a bit of annoyance while interrupted by me from his head phone music. But the Spirit worked mightily to draw him to the gospel and he ended up thanking me for the gospel message and showed his appreciation by taking a selfie with me.

9 ) Finally I intercepted Winnie to have a chat with Matt who claimed himself a Salvo Christian . I went straight to test for his assurance of salvation which he failed, but he was humble enough to listen and was pleased to find that he should have 100% assurance of salvation simply because of the redemptive work of Jesus dying for us on the cross.

It was great to be back on the streets on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (today).  Really nice sunny weather!

It was great to have Jermaine join Roger and I at the Bridge of Remembrance on Friday afternoon.  There were a lot of people around.  Actually, a lot of rugby players.  The local team was out drumming up support for the new season about to start.

I was able to start a chat with one of them, and he pulled one of his mates into the conversation.  The mate was resistant, but the original guy seemed impacted as they both heard the gospel.

I saw Roger having a conversation with one of the rugby players too.

Later, a couple of Hare Krishna’s went past chanting.  I’ve tried to engage them in the past, but they wouldn’t stop.  They didn’t stop this time either, but a minute later they paused and called me over!  I wanted to know what they believed, “why should I become a Hare Krishna.  Their brief answers weren’t answers at all, and then they wanted to move on.  I asked if they at least had a pamphlet explaining, one of them said they would bring a free book next Friday - so I’m looking forward to seeing them again.

But the highlight conversation of the day was with a young man walking down the middle of the mall.  He was willing to stop and take off his headphones, but when he realised I wanted to talk about “afterlife”, he rolled his eyes and said he was too high for that at the moment.  Not to be put off, and suggested that now may be a better time than ever, and lo and behold we had a great long chat.  It turns out he grew up in a local evangelical church, and even went to the Christian High School where my church meets each Sunday.  But he had rejected Christianity.  It turns out he is bisexual.  I was able to labour through the law and the gospel with him, and he really seemed to appreciate the chat.  Glory to God alone.

On Saturday, I wasn’t going to head out, as my legs were a bit sore.  But I decided to go anyway.  I set up my flip chart, and it was a bit of a slow start.  I felt like an idiot standing on the corner of Rotherham Street and Riccarton Road, with all the cars going past and not talking to anyone.

I prayed, and just said, “here I am God, use me”.

I went and sat down for a moment, and then looked up, 2 guys were walking past, I said, “hey guys, I have a question for you”, and they stopped, it was a wonderful chat!  One of them was familiar with the church, but wasn’t currently going - he received a wake up call.  But the other guy seemed genuinely impacted and appreciative for hearing the good news.

Soon after they left, an Asian guy called Erik went past, he was curious about the flip chart, and we fell into a gospel conversation.  Before I even get to the gospel, he says, “you're going to say Jesus”.  “Yeah, that’s right”, I say.  I explain why Jesus' sacrifice is our only hope.  And then he stops me and says, with a slightly red face, “Just yesterday I told my friends I don’t believe in Jesus.  And this morning, some things have happened, and now I walk into you”.  His look was one of shock at how perfect the timing was.  He had questions, “Why is God letting these things happen to me?”.  I answered his questions, and then I warned him, and I pleaded with him about the gospel.  I was so encouraged that God, in his perfect timing, would bring Eric to me.  I was so honoured that he would answer my prayer as he did.

Christian, may this encourage you too, as you step out in sharing the gospel!  God uses our feeble efforts for his glory.

I went on and ended up having 6 solid gospel chats over the 2 hours of the outreach.  It was so busy that twice I had people (3 in total) stop to want to talk, but I couldn’t because I was already deep in conversation.

Now, please, don’t join me in this work.  The harvest isn’t ripe, and there are plenty of labourers.  So don’t pray for more.

I mean, there is treasure in heaven to be gained, why should I share my marvellous treasure with you?  I can’t wait to lay my treasure at the feet of Jesus.

Sunday (today) was really interesting.  I turn up at my usual spot at the corner of Colombo and Cashel, and there is a guy there, James, sniffing a bag of glue.  It was a sad sight.  At that very moment, a lady (Tina) walks past smiling at me, but she turns to pour scorn on James.  So, I decided to go and sit beside James and get involved with this conversation.  It was weird watching them gently verbally abuse each other.  She was a druggie, but she doesn’t do glue like James!  So bizarre!  Weirdly, she goes to the local convenience store and buys James a pie and a drink (her good deed for the day I guess).  Anyway, they both take tracts, and I’m able to start discussing the gospel with both of them - but mainly with Tina because she was more sober.  She was very resistant, but I could see I was making some progress.

A crowd draws a crowd, and so a skater, Carl, joins the conversations.  By this stage, Tina is ready to move on, so my focus turns to Carl.  Turns out he used to sniff glue, like James - but he “matured”.  He is a good person now, and, sadly, he fought for his self righteousness.  I was able to labour with him in regards to the law until a distraction occurred and he took the opportunity to skate off.  He ignored my calls - I wanted to give him a tract.

Well, by this stage, Susan had joined me.  I looked up and I saw a Greek Orthodox priest and his friend walking down the mall!  This is an opportunity I couldn’t refuse, so I approached them and we fell into a conversation.  The priest was maybe caught off guard, because he didn’t have any answer as I seeked to find out what he believed.  But his friend interjected and started explaining a story about how the Russian Czar chose the religion for his country!

But then, there was shouting coming from behind me.  I turned to see James the glue sniffer getting into a fight with someone!?  It killed my conversation with the Orthodox guys, but luckily Susan gave the priest a tract.  I went over to try to calm the situation as a crowd started to gather.  The situation calmed down (security turned up), and I was able to start engaging a couple of kids with the gospel, while Susan gave a tract to the guy that was in the scuffle with James.

Whew, such a busy outreach!  Susan and I were now in the shade, and so we decided to head down to the other end of the mall (bridge of remembrance) to the sun.  We handed out a heap of tracts (a crowd had gathered to watch a local busker) and I was able to have a few more short / half gospel conversations.  We finished up with prayer.

I give glory to God for another weekend of gospel opportunity on the streets of Christchurch.  As I write this, I’m reflecting on the parable of the sower that Jesus explained.  Our job is to scatter the seed, I leave all the results in his care.  May there be an increase for God’s glory alone.

Battle Log of Operation 513 for Sunnybank on Wednesday August 10t, 2022 from 1300 – 1500

Today is Ekka Public Holiday as well as family day, Johnny and Amy were all not available. Joe Chai also not able to come because of family member having got Covid-positive. By the grace of God Gary instead can come so just the two of us team up for the Ekka holiday outreach. There were apparently less people flow and the bus came very frequently and quickly to bring people to the City then Ekka as such majority of the gospel chat were incomplete. It ended up as if it was only a tract handling out day. Recap below is my Battle Log: -

1) Lady Poon from Hong Kong, just managed to share the nutshell of the gospel and jumping to the conclusion of everyone needs Jesus as our saviour.

2) Taiwan Christian couples, only time for a tract.

3) A young man Chen陳 from Chengdu, Sichuan 四川成都 whom I can identify very well because of my earthquake ministry there in 2008. His girlfriend was indifferent. 女友冷漠 But Chen appeared interested and listen seriously and took a tract when the bus arrived.

4) Two young men one from HKG, a Christian and one from On Fei安徽, a non-believer. He was humble to listen but was interrupted by a phone call and the HKG friend kept chatting a shot while with me but was forced to end our conversation when the bus arrived.

5) A mature young lady by the surname Chen 陳who is from Hubei 湖北and was interested to listen to the Gospel yet the bus again came very quickly.

6) A Taiwanese 台灣couple, members of Formosa Church台福 claimed to be all Christians in the family.一家信主 Yet she has no assurance of salvation 不淸楚救恩and even no idea about the mission and work of J us. At least managed to clarify the meaning of salvation and helped the old lady to establish assurance of salvation.

7) Another young man from Nanchong of Jiangxi.江西南昌. He was very interested to gospel感興趣, yet bus came and grasp him away.

8 ) A Chinese descendant Indonesia 印尼lady claimed to have listened to the Bible and gone to church but still yet to be a Christian. 聴及去教會

9) Then I caught up with an Malaysian Chinese馬華in KL. Just only have time for quick key point message on the tract.

10) A very self-righteous lady prevented me to share with her friend非常自義的婦人,攔截朋友信主

11) Met a Nepal male but his bus just come right on time, bus came

12) A Local Aussie old man appreciative of our work but not clear about the gospel and salvation.

13) An Iraqi who was bad in English as such hard to chat but finally took the tract.

14) A Kiwi boy Having been just convicted of juvenile offence but was willing to chat and admitted he is not perfect. The bus came and he took a tract to go.

Battle Log of Operation 513 for Toowong on Tuesday August 9th, 2022 from 1330 – 1500

Today was an ordinary day fine for Street Outreach. There were more people flow at the bus stop. The three of us Johnny, Winnie and Hung served as a team. We all faced rejections but also having many meaningful chat. It was all the work of God to align us to meet and chat with people to fulfill the Will and plan of God for that particular gospel target, and in the meantime, help us to growth in faith and knowledge of God. Reap below are the Battle Log of Hung and Winnie: -

1) First I was led to approach a Singaporean man Tan. He was polite but calm and just listen to the Gospel message with not much interaction. I did ask if he found the message sensible and logical, he accepted that he can raise no objection to the design of God to render us salvation.

2) Ellen is a Christian girl who only disclose to me after I finished sharing the Gospel. I turned to check if she has assurance of salvation which was negative. I anyhow made her aware of the real reason we can get to heaven is because of the work of Jesus did for us taking our place to receive the punishment of our sins which is 100% effective to wipe clean our sins setting the record to zero. It is naturally and provided by God to allow us fail occasionally enroute of journey of sanctification. But it won't affect His promise to make us perfect again on the ground Jesus did to grant us the lost heavenly citizenship.

3) Then I was moved to approach a lady Ruth from Botswana who was very willing to hear the Gospel. Her bus arrived a bit too early to cut short our conversation. She still managed to grasp a tract to read at home.

4) An Aussie girl Susan who claimed she does not believe in God but she could not deny the logicality of the gospel. She admitted she is not perfect and accept that we have to pay a price for all those imperfection sin we have in our live.

5) Then I was led to chat with Sun Jie孫哲from Shandong山東臨滋,He appeared very open and enthusiastic to the Gospel, possibly because I can identify with his home town in Shandong.

I was able to finish the full Gospel in a nutshell leaving him the invitation to accept Christ to ponder.

6) Last but not the least, I was led to approach Derick from Sweden. Seemingly he is a Atheist, showing reluctance to chat. But I made it a personal chat about life and still ended up preaching full Gospel to him. Similarly, he could not raise any point to rebuke the truth of the Gospel.

Battle Log of Operation 513 for Sunnybank on Wednesday August 3rd, 2022 from 1300 – 1500
It was yet another fine weather afternoon good for open air outreach. It was sorry to have two regular members kept absent because of illness of self and family members. But God gave Johnny and Hung a surprise by calling and moving an old OPN 513 advocate and past team members Joe Chai to re-join us. He actually used to be the best spiritual friend of Johnny's son Michael. Both of them were once active in street outreach but later on moved on to other job and ministry. Joe worked with Evangelical Students in Campus outreach and some other outreach ministry of his church. Since the Pandemic, he is one of the work- from-home new social species. Through the Battle log of OPN 513, he got updated of our now limited street outreach while majority of OPN 513 folk have switched focus to online evangelism. Finally, God moved him to join us today while we are short of two regular hands. He actually takes one hour lunch break to rush to Sunnybank to join us from his new home now in Runcorn. We were most impressed by Joe apostolic passion to sacrifice his lunch hour to do His work. God is great and we are privilege to be His vessel for the proclamation of Gospel.
Today all of us faced momentarily consecutive rejection. But God also gave all of us many long and fruitful chats. God also imparted team work amongst us, using one team member to make the initial approach, though rejected but allow another team member to follow up making a successful connection on the 2nd attempt. Battle log of Hung is recap as follows: -
1 ) God led me to first approach an Old Aussie lady, who surprisingly was willing to talk and responded to question expressing her wish she could go to heaven by good deeds. It was a pity I did not have time to correct this stereotype concept and pray that the tract will still do the job.
2 ) Then I was led to approach Mr Yeung 楊from Quanzhou廣卅. He claimed he is a Buddhism practitioner佛. It more so gave me chance to clarify that all religions including Buddhism are good but only good at guiding people to be a good person. But no one can go to heaven unless we are perfect. I also pointed out to Mr Yeung that Buddhism strictly speaking is not a religion but simply a Moral education centre as there is no God head mentioned in Buddhism. It was all the self-perfection personal life transcending journey of the founder. Mr Yeung seems to have been impressed and understand what the religions can and cannot do versus Jesus a genuine saviour.
3 ) After that, I encountered again many rejections or sometime completer ignorance. I prayerfully moved on to my next divine appointment.
4 ) I approached two Chinese girls who also showed initial reluctance to chat. But I prayerfully and patiently still managed to share with them the full gospel before their bus arrived.
5 ) Then I have a medium long chat with Mr Yip 葉 from Hong Kong. He after a while disclosed, he is Christian and passed my test of complete assurance of salivation. He is now attending local Aussie church, but I encourage him to re-join Chinese Church or some of the on-line service.
6 ) Then I was led to approach a man from China who has just arrived from Shan Dong Ji Nan. 山東濟南. He is the rare mainlander to has open mind to listen to Gospel.
7 ) A defiant local Aussie with a Gypsy look initially tried to reject conversation but end up doing life searching question. Our conversation lasted the longest for 30 minutes. He claimed he was once a Christian but left the church and never ever will go back as he saw too many fake Christian with bad life witnesses. But after the long chat, he seemed to have his fallen asleep Spirit be revived again to see the work of God in his life.

Battle Log of Operation 513 for Toowong on Tuesday August 2nd, 2022 from 1330 – 1500

It was a fine Winter afternoon as warm as Summer. Possibly also because of resuming of a new term of UQ, there were heap of people queuing for the bus. It was a double-edged sword that many opportunities for outreach but too crowded that may affect the quality of the conversation. Nevertheless, all the three of us seemed to have many fruitful conversations with both first timer and a couple of follow up chats. Recap below are the Battle Log of Hung and Winnie: -

1 ) Young man by the name of Ng 吳from Quanzhou廣州 as such Cantonese speaking, who has come here just 2-3 months as a fresh undergrad, 二三月. He is of the opinion that being a good person should be enough to heaven好人便成. I could only manage to share first the conclusion in view of the imminent bus arrival.

2 ) Peter from Thailand , though not very welcoming initially but softened to take in the full gospel.

3 ) I approached a lady from inner Magnolia 內蒙古after she grab Chinese tract from Johnny and asked further for an English tract for the obvious purpose to learn English.學英文,She is an exchange Scholar in Physic. 物理學者專家 I share with her that Christianity in China is actually thriving to test that she is not yet a believers. I thought I have 6 min to share but an unscheduled bus arrived to have interrupted with my sharing. Hopefully the bilingual tracts will serve God's purpose for that lady.

4 ) Rejection by one and then two all from China

5 ) Then I met up with Loren a Christian whom we had chatted before. But this time I had time to test his assurance of salvation which showed he is not sure. Just had enough time to clarify for him when the bus came.

6 ) A Catholic background girl appeared very impatience to chat, using excuse the mask blurred my voice. So I took off my mask and continue to share. Her initial reaction is all offensive. But suddenly an aborigine man interjected our conversation and he told the girl to listen to the gospel as he once was also all rejective but now she ask the girl to listen. So the girl attitude turned softened to let me finish the gospel.

7 ) A Brazil couple agreed all I shared and disclosed that they are actually Christian. When tested they have a sort of assurance of salvation but still not fully cleared. It was a pity their bus came then.

8 ) Then I approached an ABC who had initial hesitant but still listen finally.

9 ) Then I approached an Indian look Filipino who is of Christian family. Yet he has no assurance of salvation so I doubtfully fear that he is not yet saved. But his bus arrived and he has to leave.

10 ) Lastly I approached Mr Chan 陳newly from Hong Kong香港. He was very quiet 沈默making no interaction. I nevertheless still managed to share him the full Gospel.

Last week I wrote about how I was determined to go out in spite of the rain (and I’m glad I did).  Well, this Tuesday, I decided to stay home!  There was a river outside my house, and I just thought the opportunities online would be better.  I’m glad I did, because I managed to get into a chat with a lady who had been involved with The World Mission Society Church of God - a nasty cult that even has a branch in Christchurch.  Andy and I have had many encounters with people involved with this cult on the streets.  And even a member of my church was able to engage them when they knocked on their door!

Anyway, this particular lady had apparently left the cult back in March, but she hadn’t come to know the true Jesus.  I was able to labour with her for over 40 minutes, working against the false teaching and explaining about God’s grace.  Sadly, although she was able to give the right answers, I didn’t see any spark of true understanding.  But who knows?  The gospel is the power of God for salvation.  Perhaps God will bring other Christians into her life to continue the chat?  Maybe someone like you?  We may not all be able to do street / online ministry, but we are all certainly able to share the gospel with those around us. :)  Be encouraged to step out!

The sun was out by Friday, and Roger and I hit the streets.  2 significant chats stand out for me.

The first was with a couple from France!  I write that with such joy, because it means foreigners are starting to come back to NZ after the long period of border lockdown due to Covid.  It’s so good that people travel so far to hear the gospel of Jesus!  Long may this continue :)

The chat went well, but the lady didn’t speak English well, and the guy was nice but resistant.  Yet, he heard the gospel, and they left with tracts.

The 2nd chat was with a couple of ladies that were very new age.  Early on in the chat, one of them said, “there is no ‘the’ truth, only many ‘a’ truths”.  I subtly kept referring back to this all through the chat so they could see how inconsistent they were being to that statement.  It was a longish chat, where I was able to share the law and gospel in between learning more about their worldview.  As I really nailed home how Christianity is about a gift (and not earning it) at the end of the chat, one of the ladies started to lose her cool ever so slightly.  It amazes me the people hate such good news!  What is that?  Pride?

Roger was having good chats too, a couple of them are pictured.  As I reflect on those pictures, it amazes me at how easy it is to spark up conversations (with a little bit of training, and pushing yourself through the initial nerves).  People really do want to talk about what happens afterlife, and it brings God much glory, even if they reject what we share.  I can’t recommend this work highly enough!  Speaking of training, we have some coming up in October.  To find out more about it, check this out.

Sadly, Saturday morning I came down with what is likely Covid (2 of my daughters tested positive, and the rest of us have symptoms).  That’s put an end to my ability to go to the streets for the next week, and yet I’m so grateful for the opportunity to share Christ online.  Bad things, like Covid, have a silver lining.  God uses all things for good!

I managed to do some gospel chats on both Saturday, and today (and they were really good ones).  But at the moment I’m mainly focusing on rest and recovery.  Please continue to keep the Christchurch Operation 513 team in prayer, it’s so needed and appreciated. :)

Battle Log of Operation 513 for Sunnybank on Wednesday July 27th, 2022 from 1300 – 1500

Today only Johnny and Hung turned up to do outreach at Sunnybank. Both Gary and Amy were absent because of sickness either themselves and or their kids. Nevertheless, we still had a very good successful rate to get a conversation mingled with some intermittent rejections.

1 ) Tong 湯from Nanjing南京, an UQ student showed good interest in the Gospel and claimed that they are willing to pursue.

2 ) Michael with a cool hand but a warm heart claimed he heard the Gospel before but sincerely agreed the gospel is what all good persons need to hear and accept.

3 ) Jeanne an old Aussie lady who claimed she is a Christian and with100% certainty she could go to heaven yet the reasons are all related what she has done from being baptised, attend church, do tithing and comply with 10 commandment yet just falling short of knowing it is solely because of Jesus dying for us and paying on our behalf the price of eternal punishment of sin. It was a pity her bus arrived as such I just falling short of pointing her that her assurance of salvation is basing on the wrong cause.

4 ) Possibly a Filipino Chinese but abruptly rejected the gospel though I still managed to pass on the nutshell of gospel.

5 ) A Chinese Christian but very sensitive to answer if they have assurance of salvation, I doubt they are from sect that did not want to talk about salvation by grace thru faith.

6 ) Pink lady shoed initial reluctant but still finally listened to the gospel and took a tract to read at home.

7 ) Then I met a UQ student 陳燕光from Wuhan武漢,he turned out to be very receptive to the gospel. 非常接受

8 ) A Shanghainese Woman initially approached by Johnny but quitted after the lady said we have chatted.上海婦婦,已聽聊天。I anyway still caught up with her to chip in gospel message in a lively manner.

9 ) Then I had a relatively long chat with a mature Chinese lady at her 35 to 40. 中國中女,She appeared very rational and had vast life experience that led her to believe, there is no way that anyone can become perfect and all we can do is to try to become a good person.理性,看透人生,盡力而為,I anyhow still tried my best to convey positive thinking and the important of salvation. 只能撒種

10 ) Mahear a Kenya UQ student is very rational minded and she doesn’t believe in heaven and hell but cannot reject the logic of gospel.

11 ) Dillon, I Vietnamese young man who were willing to listen to the gospel.

12 ) A young girl from 成都四川 who came to Australia at young age,I can identify with her with the experience of joining Sichuan Earth quake.

13 ) A Taiwanese man rejected to listen to the Gospel台男,抗拒談福音, I nevertheless still conveyed the gospel message to him.

Battle Log of Operation 513 for Toowong on Tuesday July 26th, 2022 from 1330 – 1500

Today was a very warm Winter Day and also the Uni should have started a new term of study as such the people flow at the Bus stop was much voluminous than last week. However, the initial response in general was not good, all the three of us, Johnny, Winnie and Hung all got more rejections than giving consent to chat. Situation gradually improved and recap below were the Battle Log of Hung and Winnie: -

1 ) After a couple initial rejections, the Spirit led me to approach an Asian look young man who seems to be Chinese but deny so I had to speak in English instead. Basically, the bus came too quick so just the nutshell of gospel was shared.

2 ) Then I was led to approach a Local Aussie girl who showed initial reluctance but eventually agreed to chat but with her mask on first. Basically, can just shared the nutshell of the gospel just in time before the bus arrived.

3 ) The I approached a Thailand lady who was a willing listener with genuine interest in hearing the full gospel. She possibly was the first to show genuine receptiveness to the gospel message.

4 ) Then I approached two tall young men, one is from Hong Kong and one from Liu Ning, The former listened to the gospel message with a controlled good manner while the one from Mainland China just keep a cold face completely indifferent to what I shared. He actually later uses the excuse not to wait for the bus but to walk to move the HKG friend to leave and end our conversation. Nevertheless, the gospel message was heard at least completely by the Hong Konger student. 港大陸前者聴霆擇走

5 ) Then I was led to chat with Peter whom we have met and shared before. He is a Christian but lacking 100% assurance of salvation. He showed appreciation for my clarification and the good work we are doing it for Christ.

6 ) Jack is a local Aussie from Townsville yet with Indian blood. He declined to hear the sharing of Gospel, but the Spirit gave me wisdom to change it to a casual chat but at the end, I still tactfully finished the sharing of the full gospel with encouraging receptive response. He was drawn to the chat and not paying attention for his bus. I reminded him if his bus had come and he had to rush off with true appreciation of my reminder for him to catch the bus.

finish the sharing at the end

7 ) Then my final target happened to be an arrogant Malaysian Christian, who appeared too sceptical to answer my diagnosis questions for the assurance of salvation. It indirectly showed he has no idea if he should and could have 100% assurance of salvation. So, he used abrupt denial to cover up his ignorance about salvation by grace through faith of the redemption work of Jesus Christ.

澳洲少女,Kate(相片中)

I checked the weather forecast at the start of the week, and it didn’t look good.  Rain, rain and more rain.  And yet, I determined that I wasn’t going to let it stop me.  Sure, in the wet and cold, online outreach is wonderful to do - and I often take the opportunity to go online when it’s wet.  But I thought about Joshua in Yangon, Myanmar.  He doesn’t have the online option.  Yet, he goes out in the heat and the rain anyway.  If Joshua can do it, so can I! :)

It was spitting as I headed to Riccarton on Tuesday afternoon, so I didn’t bother with my flip chart - in wet weather, it’s often better without it.  In the providence of God, the rain held off, and I was able to complete the whole 2 hour outreach without problem.  And I had some great opportunities to share the gospel.  3 chats specifically come to mind.

I was walking down Riccarton Road trying to get chats started, when a person I didn’t expect stopped at my question and wanted to engage.  I was able to take him through the law, gospel, and checks in a very efficient chat (it was cold, we both wanted to talk, but we both wanted to get moving again!)  I love it when you have those “unexpected” chats, it just reminds me that we can’t judge from what we see externally.  We don’t know what God is doing on the inside.  The gospel is to be proclaimed to everyone.

The next chat that comes to mind was one with an older teenage girl with a Muslim background.  She was very keen to receive a tract and eagerly engaged in conversation.  She too came to hear the gospel.

Finally, I approached a largish group of teens.  These chats are often tiring, but I had the energy, and with God’s help we can do it!  I ended up being able to hold the attention of most of them in a back and forth conversation.

The exact details of these chats are a bit dim as I write.  But it fills me with such joy knowing that the attributes of God are being explained, and the gospel proclaimed - for the glory of God alone.

It was dark and threatening rain on Friday morning, but by the time the afternoon outreach started, it was sunny!  Very glad for the sun, as it was bitterly cold.  Roger, Andy, John and myself were all busy in conversations.  My first was on Cashel Mall, before I did a wander over to Cathedral Square where I was able to spark up a conversation with a young Catholic guy who was on his break.  It was so interesting to listen to what he was saying, because he was making things up on the spot.  I eventually called him out on his Idolatry (making a god to suit himself).  In spite of his profession of innocence and guitlessness, later in the conversation he admitted to his sexual immorailty (pornograph), and, multiple times, I was able to reason with him on the gospel.  He stayed a long time to chat, but eventually had to get back to work.  He seemed to appreciate the chat.

I made it back to the bridge of remembrance via Worcester Blvd.  As I walked, I handed a tract to a young guy walking briskly in the other direction.  Who knows, maybe he will read it and be saved?  The simple gospel message is the power of God for salvation.

Back at the bridge, I was really encouraged to see Roger, Andy, and John all in conversations (see pic).  John ended up pulling me into his, and I was able to work through all the check questions with the guy.  He left counting the cost of the gift.

Saturday I was back in Riccarton.  I’ve just sat here trying to remember what happened on that outreach.  It was only yesterday!  But I remember now.  It started with a chat with three teen girls.  One was keen, but the other 2 were a bit standoffish.  Yet, I went through the law and the gospel.  I could tell that they didn’t really like what I was saying, and yet they couldn’t really argue with it either.

Soon after I had 6 teen guys go past.  I was able to get them to stop because of the flip chart, and they quickly engaged.  A couple of them were giving all the answers, and they were answering really well.  It turns out they all went to a good local church, and I could tell they were receiving good bible teaching.  I took them through the flip chart anyway.  And the check questions came to the fore.  When I got to the “100%” question, I turned to the guys that were only listening and challenged them all to give their own answer.  3 were “50%” sure, one was about 70% sure, and only 2 were 100% sure.  I asked the ones that were less than 100%, why they were unsure.  One of them responded with, “because I’ve done bad things”.  I was then able to demonstrate how that shows they actually should be 0% sure they are going to heaven, and the only reason why we can be 100% sure - not because we are arrogant, or know it all, but because our salvation is a gift, and doesn’t depend on us being good enough, but on Jesus sacrifice alone!  All 6 kids left with 2 kinds of tract each, and a challenge to get in touch and join me in the harvest!

I’ve just finished the Sunday afternoon outreach at the Cashel / Colombo corner.  It was raining on the way in, but I was going anyway!  To my joy the rain stopped as I arrived.  I was able to set up my flipchart and complete the 2 hour outreach without any rain!

A muslim guy that Andy and I have talked to a lot (mainly back when we were bringing the gospel to the issue of abortion outside the hospital a year or so ago – he really agreed with our stand against abortion) stoped to catch up.  We had a long chat focused on how we can get to heaven.  He seemed really challenged, in spite of his resistance.  It was great catching up with him - God willing I will see him again soon.

I had other chats.  2 that stand out was one with a young couple.  She baulked at my question of how we know what is right and wrong: “if you have to ask - there is something wrong”.  Well, I turned that on her: “spot on!  If you have to explain that God is real to someone, there is something wrong - it’s so obvious”.  There was much resistance, but it was an amicable chat where the gospel was explained.  The 2nd was with a young family very interested in the flipchart, but not so keen to talk about religion.  The father ended up asking about theodicy (why is there suffering and evil), and heard the gospel before shaking my hand and leaving with a tract.

During the outreach, I also handed out a lot of tracts.  At one moment, a group of about 8 teen boys went past (kinda interrupting a conversation I was already having).  They all took tracts, but I warned them not to litter!  If they were just going to throw them, don’t take them.  They all took one.  As I was walking home, sadly, I wasn’t surprised to see 3 discarded tracts.  One had been ripped up.  And yet, maybe 5 of them kept theirs?  Maybe one of them will read it, at a future time?  The silent missionaries are ever working.

I’ve also had some epic chats online this week.  One in particular on Omegle.  I’ll leave the photo to do the talking, but in that 14 minute chat, I explained the gospel 3 times, and answered 2 questions: how do you know God is real, and how do you know hell is real.  I re-watched that chat once, and I was shocked at all the mistakes I made, and yet, the gospel is the power of God for salvation.  I’m grateful that God uses us in our weakness to show his strength.  The other chat has been an ongoing Tik Tok dm conversation.  The message (I’ve included as a picture) brought me to tears.  Oh God I leave them in your hands!  Soli Deo Gloria!!!

Sorry for spelling and grammar issues, I’m way over on time for this, I hope it makes sense!  I wanna get back to the harvest!  Come join me!!!
