Battle Log of Operation 513 at Toowong on Tuesday Nov 4, 2025 from 1030-1200

After several days of unstable storm warning prone period, the weather have returned back to Sunny Spring time for outreach. Initial rejections were still encountered, but I was led to catch up with Adam from Turkey on a business visa to Australia. He is from Izmir on the west coast or the 3rd biggest city in Turkey. He was lucky to first secure a job offer from Australia otherwise people cannot get permit to leave the country. He is very open and receptive to Christianity and he claim Turkey is readily a very secularized Islamic country with the young generation up to middle age all deflected from Muslim to other belief. My visit to Turkey in 2023 especially only three weeks from the great earthquake built invisible connection with Adam. He was glad to meet me who share common life experience with him from Izmir. It also bring back many fond memory of my 2024 Turkey mission trip doing both city and country outreach all leading us to experience the mission power of God on the unpredictable and uncontrollable mission field.

There were several conversations though facing initial resistance but the Spirit still led me to do ice breaking casual chat but eventually returning back to the gospel message as a seed sowing attempt.

I enjoyed going through the photos for this month's report.  There weren't as many as I haven’t been on the streets as much as usual, and all the photos I had were from the Riccarton outreach.  All 4 photos (that I’ve included) were taken on the same spot.  Roger, with his flip chart.  What I like about it is that, as you flick through the photos, it makes you realise how many people you can reach just by going to the same spot for a couple of hours each week.  Sure, 1 week might be a bit slower than the next week, but, if you are diligent, then over time you can reach a lot of people.

And it’s not like we are doing anything particularly special.  Just offering tracts with a smile and an offer to do the ‘good person test’.  Or asking “Can I ask you a question?  What do you think happens after life?”  Sure, many don’t want to stop, but, many do, enough to keep our small team busy week after week.  And when they do stop, we just get to show them how we know God is real, working against their suppression; and telling them of the serious nature of sin, attempting to reawaken the conscience.  And then telling of the wonder of the mercy of God found in the sacrifice of Jesus to pay for our sin.  Our job is simply to explain the message (what a joy!)  Only God can convict and convert.  The gospel (not our effort or ability) is the power of God for salvation.

So, since I haven’t been on the streets as much this month, I’ve been doing more work online: having 1 to 1 conversations with strangers via video chat, and text chat.  Also, I’ve been doing a lot of evangelism training with Christians all over the world (via video calls).

I’ve also included 2 screenshots from a text chat I was having with someone. It was super encouraging to me what they wrote, I hope it will encourage you too.  God is truly working on the hearts of people through the feeble efforts of his saints.

Also, I took a week off (today is my first day back; and it’s also the reason why this report is a few days late).  I discovered a new evangelism tip: each time you go to the barber, go to a different one.  Because, on my week off, I went for my regular groom at the barber, and I went on a day of the week I don’t normally go, and so there were 2 different barbers there.  Barbers like to talk, I think it’s in their job description, so the young man cutting my hair starts asking me questions.  It was so easy to naturally swing the conversation to spiritual things, and he was very open.  I was able to share the law and the gospel in a very natural way.  And the other young barber was listening in too!  Again, I can’t convert anyone, all we can do is plough soil, and sow seeds as we can.

This coming month (November) we will be running a special outreach to the Canterbury A&P Show.  We have hired a site, as usual, and we’ll be setting up a gazebo and flip charts to share the gospel to many over the 3 days: Thu 13th, Fri 14th, and Sat 15th - from 9:30 am till 4:30 pm each day.  Please pray for this endeavour, that the weather would be good, for favour with the authorities, for labourers to run the site, for good relationships among the labourers, that many people would come to understand the gospel, and most importantly, that God would be glorified through our feeble efforts – that He would show His strength through our weakness.

Thank you for continuing to pray for the gospel ministry of Operation 513 based in Christchurch, NZ!

Battle Log of Operation 513 at Sunnybank on Wednesday Oct 29th 2025 from 1030-1130

It was a great morning of outreach with rain stopped and sun comes up and people's heart light and open for gospel. You can see the number of selfie photos meaning many interactive and receptive chat with either Orthodox Christian Lady Michelle for clarification of assurance of salvation; a Mainlander student from Nanchung of Jiangso China to hear the gospel for the first time, and most surprisingly with the retired Bank manger of HK Bank Mr. Chao who is also not yet a believer. Another divine appointment was to catch up with Joseph a Pharmacy student who witnessed with me at the bus stop that life can be ended anytime and was urged to pursue Salvation in Christ.

God is sovereign and ever presence whenever we are on mission with Him.

Battle Log of Operation 513 at Toowong on Tuesday Oct 28, 2025 from 1030-1200

After a hottest day we have an opposite torrential rainy day. Rain was pounding down pour in my suburb , my wife once questioned if I still should do my scheduled outreach today under such awkward weather condition, but I somehow sensed the call to serve despite of external circumstances. Two divine appointments proved that my subtle sense of the Spirit was right.

There was very few people at the bus stop. I was led to a girl from South America. She bluntly declined my chat if it is about God. In normal situation , I would have given up but I was urged to keep the conversation on. She was very alert and did not want to share too much about herself, just told me she is from South America and is doing a Master degree in UQ. Somehow, I used my limited Spanish to try breaking the ice telling her my Father was born in Mexico and worked for 10 years later in his middle age at El Savador. Since I could not talk about God, so instead I shared my life testimony that I am an Alumni of UQ and did a Master of Counselling but my purpose to serve my own cross-cultural family members was defeated yet I was given the capacity to serve as the disaster relief team to help out the Sichuan earthquake. Suddenly, I was moved to ask what kind of master she is doing and out of my surprise, she admitted she actually is doing the same degree as mine, the Master of Counselling. So, God might have used this to show it is no coincidence. I was moved to further share with her the horrible reality of PDTS with past and current cases to impress her with memories for future next divine appointment.

Another divine appointment was with an Indian doing Physic at U Q . He is from a Christian family but falls away from his parents ‘ faith. He rather believes that being a good person is fine enough as such he inclined to identify with Buddhism. But my sharing really triggered him to understand good is not good enough and imperfection really will cause eternal separation from God or disqualification from heavenly citizenship.

There were other chat with people chatted with me before and some consistent rejecting people. They were all good training for me to serve and listen to God simultaneously.

Battle Log of Operation 513 at Sunnybank on Wednesday Oct 22nd 2025 from 1030-1130

I was left doing solo again with my Gospel team mates all unavailable, so today I chose to cut it shorter for an hour or so as I have to leave earlier for another special visitation near by that must be done from 1145 finishing by 1230.

There were a few short and incomplete chats because of bus arriving quick. Apart from that, I was led to have a long chat with an ex-solider of Vietnam during the American Vietnam war in the 60th. He chose to migrate to Australia rather than USA as his daughter had come to live in Australia. He was of Buddhism background and has a strong good person mindset that it is good enough for a normal human being to pursue a peaceful life by acting as a good person. Nevertheless, he still was happy to keep the chat on for almost half an hour to find solace in having an interactive conversation which he has not had it for a long time after getting divorce at this old age.

Battle Log of Operation 513 at Toowong on Tuesday Oct 21, 2025 from 1030-1200

Today I officially return to doing street outreach on solo mode, at least for Toowong this outreach mission field as Johnny will be unavailable for at least 6 months.

By the grace of God, I connected with a mainlander student who claimed one of us at Toowong chatted with him before. I anyway followed up and realize he has not heard of my metaphor of being perfect by having no record of crime for migration application. So, in the same token, as long as it is a consensus that there is no perfect human being, it implies the whole human race with no exception should have been disqualified for regaining the heavenly kingdom citizenship. He appeared very convinced and was happy to have further chat with me next time we meet as such he voluntarily took a selfie with me.

Another important chat was with a fall back Christian lady from Uganda who is doing a PhD in creative writing. She is an intellectual person, so I use the Crime free certificate metaphor to explain why it is important for all imperfect human though good but to rely on Jesus as our Savior to die for us and paid for the eternal death penalty of our sin as such our record of sin is set to zero makign us a new creation with a perfect clean no sin record to be qualified to reconcile with God. She also promise to continue on our chat if we meet next time as such she was happy to leave a selfie with me.

There were a few more conversations which were incomplete due to quick arrival of bus. It was aftercall still a fruitful day of gospel outreach gaining spiritual growth by being on mission with God.

Battle Log of Operation 513 at Sunnybank on Wednesday Oct 15th 2025 from 1030-1200

Finally, all the committed team members of street outreach assembled as a full team to day at Sunnybank. It is a memorable moment as Johnny has to be away for over half a year but Edwin should be able to join Hung more frequently following his BST study coming to an end.

With the three of us, the rate of outreach approached 100% that there was no single person escapes our catching up especially Edwin who uses to be quick in action in term of asking for a Gospel chat.

God led us to approach people of all nations who in general are friendly, willing and approachable. Some are familiar persons whom we chatted before as such we could do follow up chat. Some are less serious persons who can only allow a short chat as such we quickly cover the core of the Gospel. But there were also many serious ones who interacted with sensible question.

It was a fruitful day for the Lord on this harvest field at the bus stop off Sunny Plaza shopping center.

Battle Log of Operation 513 at Toowong on Tuesday Oct 14, 2025 from 1030-1200

This was the 2nd last time I can team up with Johnny for street outreach as he will be away for a long time over half a year for many other personal and ministry engagement. Biblically, It was always good to work with at least a partner on all sort of outreach to cover and back up each others. Today, this sort of team work happened again that Johnny referred Cantonese speaking people to me. Of course God Himself is the ever present partner with me even I have to go solo. It helps us to overcome fear for intimidation by unfriendly person but still guided by the Spirit to seek a change of heart for allowing us to share the gospel if not at least our own testimony. So, It has become normality getting initially antagonistic persons of other faith or atheist to be softened down for a friendly chat. Today, I also was able to minister to a couples of Christian rectifying their misconception on salvation and reaffirming them to have 100% assurance of salvation by faith through grace in Christ alone.

Battle Log of Operation 513 at Toowong on Tuesday Oct 7, 2025 from 1030-1200

I was late to day as I attended first the special prayer meeting for the deceased Principal of BST Richard Gibson. I met Carol there and we teamed up for the group prayer time. It was my prayer that BST will take up the legacy of the ex-principal to keep producing God loving and action oriented graduated to do walk the walk in gospel outreached in day to day life.

It was again a fruitful day for both our us. We encountered very rare rejection. And even people from Muslim, Hinduism background were open and receptive to the gospels.

I had a follow up chat with a Christian India girl and helped her to nail the awareness of 100% assurance of salvation. Also chatted with many non-believers, they all were agreeable that no human is perfect and surprised to realize the consequence of imperfection is the eternal loss of right to apply and regain our heavenly citizenship just like we cannot apply for migration to Australia if we ever have a crime record.

Another month has passed.  Another month closer to eternity.  Time is moving fast.  The older I get, the more I want to forgo the pleasures of this life and invest in the kingdom to come - for God’s glory alone.  The best way I know to do that is to tell as many people as I can about who God is: His justice and His mercy.  And to try to encourage other believers to do the same - as much as I fail to do that.  My prayer is that He will use our feeble efforts to show His strength.

This month we had the joy of running a short term mission to… our own city!  Christchurch.  Why travel so far at so much cost, when you can just step out your door to the local streets, markets and meeting places to tell people there about Jesus.

For 1 week in September: Monday to Sunday, we spent our days ministering the gospel in our usual outreach spots: Cashel Mall and Riccarton, but we also got to re-visit some of our old haunts: the Eastgate and Northlands bus stops!  It was so good to be back in those spots - Andy and I talked about trying to visit them more often in the future.

One chat I had at Northlands is burned into my memory.  It was so encouraging.

A bus had just degourged its passengers and I managed to strike up a chat with one of them: a young man - probably in his late teens.  When I asked him what he thought happened after life, he became sad, “I hope it’s heaven, but, there will probably be nothing after I die”.  So, starting from there, I was able to explain to him how we know God is real.  This was when I was rewarded with his first facial change - it made sense to him, there must be a God - hope dawned on his face.  I then proceeded to explain how we know there is a heaven and a hell.  The look of hope on his face broke into a smile - again, it made sense – that means there won’t be nothing after life!  Finally, I was able to reason with him about the bad news: that we clearly deserve hell, but then the good news: what God has done so we can mercifully go to heaven.  And that was when I was rewarded with the final expression change - there is true hope for heaven!!  What a joy and a privilege it was for me to minister this good news to him.  How wonderful is it that God condescends to use a wretch like me to deliver such wonderful hope.

Suddenly he had to go, I was able to give him a tract before he scooted across the road and into the mall.  I didn’t have a chance to really work through any of the check questions.  I may never see him again, but, in those brief minutes I was able to pass him the bread of life.  I leave him in God’s hands - I didn’t even get a chance to learn his name; yet, God knows what it is.

On Saturday, Craig and I were in Riccarton.  I was handing out tracts when an older lady went past.  “Have you got one of these?”, I said.  She stopped and turned.  “What is it?”, she asked.  “It’s about Jesus”.  Her face beamed.  She bounded up to me and gave me a hug, and then she kissed me on the cheek!  “I’m a Messianic Jew, you’re doing a great job young man”.  She took the tract and bounded off before I had a chance to say anything further.  Haha, I don’t think I’ve ever been kissed for sharing the gospel before!  Always a first.  It made me re-evaluate, am I being faithful in my delivery?  I mean, if I’m being faithful, then the reaction is more often than not going to be that I’ll be spat at – people hate God because they love their sin.  But, no, I think if we are faithful, we will get a range of responses: including joy and hatred.  We must be gentle and respectful, but we must be faithful too, no compromise on the truth.
